VAT Registration in UAE

What is VAT Registration in the UAE?

Introduced in 2018, the Value Added Tax (VAT) is a consumption tax imposed on goods and services throughout the supply chain. VAT registration in Dubai helps to ensure businesses operating in the UAE comply with tax regulations.

VAT registration ensures businesses collect and pay the correct VAT on their goods and services. This creates a new income source for the UAE government, allowing it to provide high-quality services. It will also help the government to diversify the economy and minimize the dependency on oil.

Why is VAT Registration Crucial for Your UAE Business?

VAT registration has become mandatory for businesses operating in the UAE. Here is why it is crucial to register your business with VAT:

  • It ensures your business is legally compliant.
  • It prevents hefty fines and penalties.
  • A VAT Registration Certificate helps to improve the credibility of a business, boosting trust among clients and suppliers.
  • It helps to obtain input tax credits.
  • VAT registration increases growth opportunities and strengthens market position.

Who Needs to Register for VAT in the UAE?

01

Mandatory VAT Registration

Businesses are required to register for mandatory VAT if the total value of taxable supplies and imports surpass AED 375,000 in the past 12 months. Whether you are in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE, if you meet the criteria, get your business registered with VAT to avoid fines and penalties.

02

Voluntary VAT Registration

If you are not eligible for mandatory VAT, you can apply for Voluntary VAT registration. If the value of taxable supplies and imports exceeds AED 187,500 over the past 12 months, you are eligible for Voluntary VAT registration. Some companies opt to register for VAT, even though they didn’t meet the legal threshold. They might have done this to secure input tax credits.

03

Group VAT Registration

If numerous entities are operating under a single group, they can be registered for VAT as a single taxable person under group VAT registration.
